About Alison

I am a contemporary painter, based in Wimbledon.

The paintings are a reflection of my life, relating to me and my experiences – mostly landscapes in semi abstract form. Colour and texture that fascinate and resonate with me, exploring my expression and how to share that.

I find art is a place where time is slowed down and gives a space to think and just be. Not that my work lies down, I try to create depth and an experience that can be both challenging and dramatic as well as thoughtful and subtle. I want you to go looking in my paintings, let them transport you, to another place.

I spend hours at a time on Wimbledon Common, it is wild and empty enough to satisfy my need for nature. Growing up in an isolated part of Tasmania, ocean journeys, an uncompromising childhood, returning to the UK age 11, time spent in Norfolk and South Devon, art school in Canterbury, all the way through to living in London, travelling alone in Africa, working in a job that took me all over the world for a time. Now every year visiting France with my family, freezing cold Irish sea swims with my sister in the beautiful Isle of Man. Getting old, my body not how it was, everything changing, children draining me but filling me up in equal quantities, my studio, my place, my sanctuary, my paintings, everything in my life, on card, canvas and board, in colour and shape. Laughter and tears, loss and grief, and joy. Yes, I paint landscapes, but all this history is a part of what I am trying to say.
